Rehabilitation & Assistive Products: evidence guidance

Prepare the evidence for a rehabilitation & assistive products entry. This guide covers the product details, reports and use information reviewers need.

A practitioner and a seated person using a handheld device in a clinical setting

Start with the task

Explain the activity supported and circumstances of use. Identify relevant physical, sensory or cognitive needs without assuming all users have the same requirements.

Explain fitting and adjustment

Describe sizing, personalisation, compatibility and the role of a professional or caregiver. Explain how unsuitable fit or use is recognised. Make explicit any setup condition on which a result depends.

Match evidence to the benefit

Provide relevant material on task completion, usability, performance or therapeutic outcomes. Easier operation can be meaningful without establishing improved clinical recovery. Include durability, cleaning, maintenance, repair and training, and explain how users obtain support during everyday use.

Evidence checklist

Area Required material Check before submitting
Context Tasks, users, environment and assistance Relevant user differences and exclusions are described.
Fitting Sizes, adjustments, accessories and instructions Evidence matches the configuration and setup competence.
Benefit Reports, task evidence and outcome measures Usability and therapeutic outcomes are distinguished.
Use Learning, accessibility, caregiver interaction and errors Findings concern intended users and tasks.
Care Cleaning, wear, servicing, replacement and support Deterioration and appropriate help are addressed.

Explaining outcomes

A usability study showing easier completion of a task may support that finding in its context. It does not establish faster clinical recovery unless that outcome was evaluated. Explain user participation and resulting design changes, required fitting skills and compatibility with other equipment.

Map claims to sources

For each principal claim, record its exact wording, report or study, file and page, assessed version, method or population, finding and limitation. Identify the author and relevant relationship with the applicant. Explain how evidence about a different formulation, component or version applies to your product.

Prepare readable files

Supply readable reports, with the original and relevant English passages where needed. Keep private reports separate from proposed public information. Remove personal information not needed for review.

The entry permits up to 20 attachments and 250 MB in total: 25 MB per PDF and 10 MB per image. Video is supplied by link. Contact the awards team if an essential report exceeds these limits.
